Bandra Sentimental est le premier livre de Romain Sellier, pensé comme le récit photographique de son voyage à Bombay en octobre 2018.
Fasciné par la beauté et l’élégance des personnes qu’il y rencontre, Romain Sellier choisit de concentrer son regard sur le portrait de rue. Il capte une manière instinctive d’associer les teintes, presque inconsciente, où chaque image trouve un équilibre subtil entre intensité et harmonie.
Au fil des portraits se révèlent des présences à la fois affirmées et énigmatiques. Les regards, les attitudes et les matières composent un récit sensible, traversé par une richesse à la fois esthétique et émotionnelle. Dans la diversité des rencontres, il s’attache à restituer, avec justesse et spontanéité, la beauté, la dignité et la profondeur des habitants de Bombay.
Né d’une collaboration étroite avec le styliste Kshitij Kankaria, dont l’œil a accompagné chaque image, Bandra Sentimentals’inscrit dans une dynamique collective, portée par l’énergie des rencontres et par celles et ceux qui lui ont donné forme. Un ensemble qui se révèle comme une expérience profondément humaine autant que visuelle.
Bandra Sentimental is Romain Sellier’s first book, conceived as a photographic account of his journey to Bombay in October 2018.
Fascinated by the beauty and elegance of the people he encounters, Romain Sellier chooses to focus his gaze on street portraiture. He captures an instinctive, almost unconscious way of combining tones, where each image finds a subtle balance between intensity and harmony.
Throughout the portraits, presences emerge that are both assertive and enigmatic. Gazes, postures, and textures come together to form a sensitive narrative, infused with both aesthetic and emotional richness. Through the diversity of these encounters, he seeks to convey, with accuracy and spontaneity, the beauty, dignity, and depth of the people of Bombay.
Born from a close collaboration with the stylist Kshitij Kankaria, whose eye accompanied each image, Bandra Sentimental is rooted in a collective dynamic, driven by the energy of encounters and by those who helped shape it.
