Biography

Portuguese-born and based in New York, Ricardo Gomes brings a bold, cinematic energy to his work, one that merges music, fashion, and contemporary culture with an instinctive understanding of image and rhythm. Fascinated by the worlds of performance and youth, his lens captures moments that are raw, magnetic, and unapologetically alive.

Ricardo’s distinctive vision has led him to collaborate with some of the most influential figures in music and art, including Madonna, Ye, Patti Smith, Arca, Doja Cat, J Balvin, Maluma, Tokischa, Megan Fox, Michele Lamy, Honey Dijon, the Sex Pistols, the Stooges, Marianne Faithfull, and Pete Doherty.

His work has appeared across leading international platforms such as Vogue, L’Officiel, Interview, Rolling Stone, Highsnobiety, Paper Magazine, V Magazine, Willy Chavarria, and Dolce & Gabbana.

His directorial debut, Madame X, a tour film for Madonna released in 2021, was nominated for an MTV Video Music Award for Best Long Form Video. Since then, Ricardo has continued to direct and lead creative direction for major projects, including Madonna’s Celebration Tour, as well as various brand campaigns, event visuals, and album artworks.

Ricardo currently serves as Creative Director alongside Carine and Vladimir Roitfeld for the magazine Players.

His first photography book, Playground, published in 2018 and launched at Bookmarc New York, captures his early fascination with freedom, youth, and the poetry of rebellion. As Vogue Paris once wrote, “he has a unique way of immortalizing youth through his snapshots.”
